In the summer of 1999, I bought the “Baby One More Time” album by Britney Spears with my birthday money. I had just turned eleven, and I was obsessed. I watched her “Sometimes” concert on the Disney Channel.
Meanwhile, on the Connecticut shoreline, Rebecca and Laura were performing the song in their Senior Class talent show.
Not one of us knew that one day a little store called Crush Boutique would exist on Beacon Hill’s famed Charles Street… for that matter, The Liberty Hotel was still a jail.
Today, it’s the luxury hotel that starlets from across the globe call home while staying in Boston. This week, from Sunday to Tuesday, it was the humble abode of our Millennium pop star icon.

On Sunday, little sister Jamie Lynn Spears sauntered into Crush with a girlfriend. They spent the next hour pulling clothes for one another to try on, modeling handbags in the mirror and eyeing edgy accessories from Nicole Richie’s jewelry line House of Harlow 1960.
The Nickelodeon star (and mom to little girl Maddie) was enjoying a weekend in Boston during her sister’s Femme Fatale Tour. She purchased a French Connection blazer, a BCBGeneration ruffled top with lace, a Greylin blouse, an Aryn K. long sleeve top, a House of Harlow 1960 arrow ring, and an Urban Expressions vegan clutch.
She opted for flirty, but functional, blousy pieces that all paired well with her shorts. One couldn’t help but notice the killer sunglasses she wore on her way into the store.
Rebecca, Laura and I were insanely jealous of Kacie and Nicole who were working in Crush at the time. They reported Jamie as super friendly, chatty and sweet. Plus, Yay! SHE’S JAMIE LYNN SPEARS AND SHE WAS IN OUR STORE.

Monday morning, Rebecca departed on a two-week boat trip, and Laura and I sipped our Starbucks and imagined how cool it’d be if our morning of paperwork and orders was interrupted by Jamie’s big sis.
Then… it was.
Mid-afternoon, a black Escalade pulled up outside of Crush Boutique and two men in suits emerged. Our attention was peaked.
And then there she was: Britney Spears. In our store.
She was 5’3” at best, naturally pretty, clad in jeans, sneakers and a grey t-shirt, and perusing the racks of our store.
She was quiet and unassuming, but super sweet and very polite. She instantly chose an Isabel Lu polka dot blouse and the Wink NYC Shari Top in blush. Both will pair perfectly with jeans and boots, or trendy platform heels this Fall.
She also purchased the Natasha Dress from DV by Dolce Vita, and the Ali Ro Ginger Spice Sequins Dress. She asked her shopping buddy, a good-looking California-cool fellow who chilled on our couch, if the Ali Ro dress was something for the VMAs. I was starstruck.

Britney thanked us for having her, completed purchasing her four spectacular items and left… after all, she had to be on stage at the TD Banknorth Garden in just a few hours!
We’re so thrilled and flattered that both Britney and Jamie Lynn visited our store this week. We hope that they enjoy their new wardrobe pieces and wish Britney the very best of luck on the rest of her Femme Fatale Tour!
